Nebria brevicollis

This is a ground beetle, Nebria brevicollis, found in the garden. It is almost identical to N. salina except that it has hairy legs and prefers drier habitats.
The ground beetle family, Carabidae, are one of the largest known families, with over 40,000 species worldwide. In the UK there are around 350 species. That's nearly a year's worth for my blog!
